Melissa Phillips is an American portrait, documentary, and travel photographer.

Her work has taken her across North America, Mexico, Europe, India, and the Caribbean, exploring topics such as anti-terror legislation, immigration, rural farming, artist communities, markets, fishing villages, religion, and gender dynamics, as well as occasional reportage on political conflict and civil unrest.

With a passion for underreported stories and unique communities, she has also been documenting subcultures and micro-economies throughout Haiti since 2011 as part of a longterm project. Her work aims to shed light on the country's cultural significance, as well as the tragedies and triumphs of everyday life as a counterpoint to the more-widely shared narratives of poverty, crime, natural disasters, and political upheaval.

Originally based in New York, she is currently living in Los Angeles, CA. She holds professional memberships with ASMP, NPPA, and SPJ, and is a contributing photographer for Redux Pictures. She is available for select assignments on a freelance basis.
